Our History

The seed for Go Green Des Plaines was planted when Des Plaines resident Liz Bowman started the Pollinator Partnership Des Plaines, with funding from ChangeX.   This was incorporated into Go Green Des Plaines and a FaceBook group was started in 2019, which now has almost 300 members (as of April 2024).  This nonprofit organization obtained 501(c)(3) status in August of 2023 with a board of 3 members, Liz Bowman, KT Petersen and Rhonda Popko.  In January 2024, KT Petersen took over as President and 3 more board members were approved in March, 2024:   Kim Martin (Secretary), Mary Meskan and Jim Richards.  KT applied for and received a $10,036 grant from the Rivers Casino in March, 2024.

Our Non-Profit

Go Green Des Plaines is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status.  Financial information is available upon request.

Acknowledgement of Native American Lands

Go Green Des Plaines acknowledges that we are on the lands of the Council of Three Fires—the Ojibwa, Ottawa and Potawatomi—as well as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sauk and Meskwaki peoples.
We acknowledge that we have played a role in shaping the histories of local Native Americans by acquiring this land. We also recognize, share and celebrate their immemorial ties to this land.
We commit ourselves to developing deeper partnerships that advocate for the progress, dignity and humanity of the many diverse Native Americans who still live and practice their heritage and traditions on this land today.
