Go Green Des Plaines supports our young community members by offering opportunities such as the Green Crew, internships for high school students, and working with area schools and Scout troops. We are also excited to announce a new $1000 award for an environmentally minded college-bound senior!

Go Green Des Plaines Sustainability Award
The Go Green Des Plaines Sustainability Award recognizes and rewards a graduating high school student who has demonstrated interest and activities in the environmental field and plans to embark on a career path in related areas. Eligibility is open to high school students who live in Maine Township and will be enrolled in either a 2- or 4- year college or university program. The $1000 award provides financial assistance to one student to be used for fees and/or supplies needed for field work, research, or classroom work in their curriculum. The award will be given out to one student each year.
Deadline for Application and Letters of Recommendation is April 6, 2026
Interested students should provide the following:
Online Application Form ("Apply Now" below). This includes:

A personal statement outlining their qualifications and personal goals.

A description of extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and employment focusing on the goals of this award.
Letters of Recommendation:
Two letters of recommendation from persons who are able to comment on the candidate’s academic progress and achievements, personal qualities, and commitment and activities in natural and/or environmental sciences. One letter should be from a teacher or academic advisor and letters should include address, phone number, email and signature. The letter should indicate how the person knows the applicant and for how long. Applicants need to ensure that the reviewers receive this information.
Review Process
The applicant will be contacted when all materials are received. A subcommittee appointed by the Board of Go Green Des Plaines will conduct the review process. Applicants will be contacted about the decision of the committee shortly thereafter via email.
As part of the award process, GGDP requires that the awardee provide a summary of how the award was used.
